The Biden Administration’s decision to loosen restrictions on immigration into the U.S. is already causing problems for towns and cities located near the Mexican border.
The renewal of the Obama-era “catch-and-release” policy, in particular, has added to the burden on the limited amount of resources available to these communities.
According to Axios, Texas Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Democrat, “warned the Biden administration against easing up too much on unauthorized immigrants, citing their impact on his constituents, local hospitals and their potential to spread the coronavirus.”
Cuellar told Axios “he supports President Biden.” However, “he sees the downsides of efforts to placate pro-immigrant groups, an effort that threatens to blow up on the administration.”
He said, “You just can’t say, ‘Yeah, yeah, let everybody in’ — because then we’re affected down there at the border.”
Cuellar is the second Democrat to warn about the difficulty border communities are having as they contend with the sharp increase of illegals.
After the unexpected snowstorm two weeks ago knocked out power for 4 million Texans, the city of Del Rio was overwhelmed by an influx of immigrants at a time when resources were already stretched thin. Mayor Bruno Lozano issued a plea, via a video recording, to the Biden Administration to stop releasing illegal immigrants into his city.
“I am pleading and requesting with you to please put a halt to any measures regarding the release of immigrants awaiting court dates into the city of Del Rio and surrounding areas,” Lozano began. “We do not have the resources available to house and accommodate these migrants within our community.”
“I will have no choice but to use the extreme measures under the emergency declaration as the mayor of the City of Del Rio, Texas, to refuse the entry of migrants awaiting court dates into the city of Del Rio,” he warned. “If you do send these individuals into our community, we will be forced to make a decision to leave them without resources under these dire circumstances.”
“I am asking [you] to please stop. Please make another plan for this federal issue,” he requested.
The Biden Administration quickly reversed the tremendous progress made by the Trump Administration in solving the border crisis.
Complaints by Cuellar and Lozano are likely the first of many. This administration is playing with fire.
At present, this is a problem. Soon, it will be a full, blown crisis.
