During a segment on MSNBC’s “Deadline White House” on Monday, the panel, which included host Nicolle Wallace, former Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO) and former CIA Director John Brennan, discussed how “some” Republicans have blamed Antifa and other left-wing groups for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Frankly, the Republicans I’ve listened to are pretty clear that it was carried out by Trump supporters. And they’ve also been quick to condemn the violence. But trotting out straw men and knocking them down has always been a preferred modus operandi of the left.
McCaskill told the group this was “because they want to be the victims, not the perpetrators. I have never seen so many whiny white men calling themselves victims as I saw over the weekend at CPAC. I mean, these are all people who think they have a huge grievance from a position of significant privilege.”
She continued, “It has really become the norm for the new Republican Party that lying is just peachy keen and I can’t believe the majority of America is gonna accept that, especially if we remain vigilant about pointing out what the facts are.”
“It renders at best hypocritical, at worst cynical and false, any notion that the Republicans care about the lives and the safety of law enforcement,” said host Nicolle Wallace.
Then John Brennan chimed in. He said, “Well, I must say to Claire’s point, I’m increasingly embarrassed to be a white male these days in light of what I see of my other white males saying. But it just shows that, with very few exceptions like Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney, Adam Kinzinger, there are so few Republicans in Congress who value truth, honesty and integrity.”
“And so, they’ll continue to gaslight the country the way Donald Trump did. And the fact this has such security and safety implications for the American public and for the members of Congress, again, as Claire said, it is a disgusting display of craven politics that really should have no place in the United States in 2021.”
With all due respect Director, who’s gaslighting whom?
After listening to this exchange, I feel like I’m in Wonderland.
John Brennan is lecturing us about truth, honesty and integrity. This man has lied twice to Congress.
Brennan’s office was ground zero in the Russian Collusion scandal. I’ll refer you to several articles I’ve written on this subject:
He’s always believed he was above the law.
During a May 23, 2017 House Intelligence Committee hearing on Russian interference in the 2016 election, then-Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), asked Brennan, “When you learned of Russian efforts, did you have evidence of a connection between the Trump campaign and Russian state actors?”
Brennan famously replied, “As I said, Mr. Gowdy, I don’t do evidence.”
This man is a practiced liar. He sounds entirely credible. But his record speaks for itself.
Finally, and this applies to all three of these creatures of the left, I refer you to the golden rule of the left. “Accuse the other side of what you are doing.” Although it was a favored tactic of 20th-century community organizer Saul Alinsky, according to Heartland.org’s Seton Motley, “this quote has bopped around for quite some time. It is at times attributed to Communists Vladimir Lenin and Karl Marx, National Socialist Joseph Goebbels.”
Whatever its origin, Democrats continue to rely on it to this day. It works like a charm.
