Rep. Lauren Boebert, Colorado’s bold new congresswoman, is a gun enthusiast. She is also the owner of Shooters Grill, a restaurant located in Rifle, Colorado.
Boebert participated in a virtual hearing of the House Natural Resources Committee last Thursday.
The purpose of the hearing was to establish committee rules for the new session of congress, according to Vice.com. And ironically, one of their “rules includes a ban on carrying firearms into congressional committee hearings.”
Boebert voiced her opposition to this rule, telling her colleagues they were “infringing on her gun rights.”
Rep. Jared Huffman of California, a Democrat, told her, “Here’s the reality: If somebody wants to have a shrine to their gun fetish as a Zoom backdrop in their private life, they can do that. But this is our hearing room, and at some point we will get past the COVID epidemic and we’ll all start showing up in person and our safety and our ability to conduct our business civilly without feeling threatened is a relevant consideration. It’s necessary that we lay down these ground rules that whatever your fetishes or feelings are about guns, you’re not going to bring them into our committee room.”
However, Boebert stuck to her guns (sorry!).
“It doesn’t matter how you feel or how you classify it, this is an enumerated right that American citizens have to keep and bear arms.”
Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) sent out a tweet which said, “I always thought my dirty dishes piled up and accumulating bacteria were the most dangerous thing in a Zoom background,”
Lidblog.com reported that Porter tagged “‘Room Rater,’ an account known for judging people’s living room and office spaces. That group didn’t let her down, rating Boebert’s room as a zero out of ten and claimed the GOP Rep was ‘fascist.'”
Asked about this slight during an interview with Fox News’ Mike Emmanuel, Boebert replied, “It’s kind of alarming that she has so many dishes in her sink collecting bacteria…Do your dishes, Hon.”
Boebert was unapologetic in her remarks to Emmanuel in the video below:
On the positive side, numerous conservatives agreed that Boebert gave committee members one heck of a speech in defense of the Second Amendment.
